Kashgar

Kashgar is a city in Xinjiang, People's Republic of China. It is one of the westernmost cities of China, near the border with Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, and Tajikistan. Kashgar has served as a trading post and strategically important city on the Silk Rout between China, the Middle East, and Europe for over 2,000 years.

Abakh Khoja Tomb, Near Kashgar, an ancient Islamic building nestles among poplar trees. With glazed tiles shining in the sun, its tower points to the blue sky. A masterpiece of Uigur architecture, this is Abakh Khoja Tomb, 17th Century family cemetery of the Kashgar area Islamic leader.

Day-02 KASHGAR

Full day city tour of the remaining parts of Kashgar

Eid Gah Mosque

'Id Kah' means 'a place of praying and celebrating in festivals'. The Id Kah Mosque is located on the central square in Kashgar City. As the biggest mosque in China, it is a group of old Islamic constructions with strong ethnic style and religious features. It is said that this place was once a cemetery. The present Id Kah Mosque was built in 1442 as a very small structure. Several renovations and enlargements have created it with today's scale and style.

Kashgar Old Town

Kashgar Old Town, or Kashgar Old City, is located downtown Kashgar. It reflects Islamic culture in architecture and Uygur customs. Nowhere do you get the sense of this Silk Road history more than in the historic Old City of Kashgar. The community was built here behind raised walls to provide protection and inside is a warren of more than two hundred streets and alleyways that bend their way through residential and market areas. But, unfortunately, nowhere do you also get a better sense of the impact of modern China than in the historic Old City of Kashgar. Although it looks old, most of this area was actually knocked down around 2009/2010 by Chinese authorities and rebuilt in the same style.
